Supporting Parents of Emotionally Sensitive Children: Coaching, Validation, and Behavior Change
When children struggle to regulate their emotions, the impact is felt within the entire household. Parents are rarely provided with a clear protocol for responding during episodes of emotional or behavioral dysregulation. While well-intentioned efforts to soothe, comfort, or fix the problem can escalate the situation, parents are also uniquely positioned to provide the environment their child needs to thrive. This workshop equips clinicians with practical strategies to help parents strengthen the parent-child relationship, reduce conflict at home, and support their child’s emotional growth. Participants will learn how to teach validation and problem-solving skills that increase connection while also encouraging behavior change. Using concrete examples and interactive practice, clinicians will leave prepared to coach parents in applying these strategies in their very next session.
