Living Well with Adult ADHD
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has demonstrated efficacy for adults with ADHD; however, not all CBTs for this client group are created equal and ADHD symptoms themselves can get in the way of clients implementing the skills that can help them thrive. Dr. Laura Knouse will discuss the CBT model of ADHD and the core treatment components that are common to the most effective approaches, followed by a discussion of specific strategies for promoting implementation of skills to include her own recent research on avoidant automatic thoughts. She will also discuss how to tailor treatments for college students with ADHD. Using examples from her own clinical practice, she will discuss how to empower clients to bring the values and attitudes of CBT into their own lives, fostering a growth mindset despite ADHD’s challenges.
