Burnout Recovery as a Clinical Target and Embodied Practice, Part 1- Foundations in Theory

This training provides a comprehensive foundation for conceptualizing burnout as both an individual and systemic phenomenon. Drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), participants will explore how psychological inflexibility, self-criticism, and threat-based motivational systems contribute to the development and maintenance of burnout. Through a combination of theory, reflection, and clinical examples, attendees will learn how to assess burnout, understand its functional underpinnings, and reframe it as a meaningful clinical target within evidence-based care.

Course Objectives:

1. Describe burnout and identify key individual and systemic factors that contribute to its onset and maintenance
2. Analyze psychological inflexibility through the lens of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and its impact on burnout presentations
3. Describe how Compassion-Focused Therapy conceptualizes burnout within the model of threat, drive, and soothing systems
